Gloucester laboratories are an integral part of the Wood Veterinary Group. Housed within a purpose built extension to the small animal hospital with its designated post-mortem room it is staffed by experienced and skilled personnel providing laboratory services to the practices own team of thirteen vets and also carrying out investigations for practices throughout the country.
The small animal hospital requires rapid analysis of samples and a range of modern analysers capable of biochemical and haematological testing provides this. This means that results are available in the hospital within minutes. All parasitological and microbiological tests are also carried out on site.
A similar range of tests are required for the farm animal side of the practice and over many years the lab has developed a well recognised expertise in milk microbiology .As such the lab carries out numerous routine and investigational work on milk and water samples from practices and farms from all over the UK and Ireland, these include Bulk Tank analyses, Cluster Liner swabbing and mastitis bacteriology.
The laboratory services are often used by pharmaceutical companies in trial work for the registration or development of new animal medicines.

The poultry and gamebird side of the practice relies heavily on post mortem  examinations, combined with parasitological and microbiological  techniques within the lab This is backed up by professional advice, whether by visits or telephone advice, plus the provision of specific poultry medicines which are kept in stock.
